Frequently Asked Questions
What is the PBV App
The PBV app is for use by MAHLE employees only as an aide in making quality Engine Cooling Modules (ECM) for PACCAR. There are two major functions of the app: to look up the Bill of Material (BoM) for sub module and trim parts, and to create QR codes for use in the sub module and trim machines. The use of an iPhone with camera facilitates entering kit or mod label data to be able to decode and present information in a human readable format.
Who would use the PBV App?
The BoM lookup function would primarily be used by Quality either in the production plant or as an audit function at the customer's factory. The Quality team would use the BoM information to verify if the ECM was built correctly. In the case of a duplicated ECM, the Quality team could also use the BoM to determine how the duplicated ECM would be reworked and/or reused. The QR code functionality would be used by production leaders to help resolve cases where a kit or module label is illegible. Production leaders would be trained to know the risks associated with generating a QR code.
How do I log in?
To get to the login page, click the Logout Icon. The login page will display in 5 seconds. To login, please enter your username and password that was assigned. Click the LOGIN button.
Where can I get a username and password?
You can get a login name and password after your manager has approved your app request. Specific training is required before safely using the PBV app. Once approved, you will be sent an email with your credentials.
How do I use the BoM functionality?
Periodically the BoM database is updated from the master data in BKP. Typically this is done once per month or sooner if there have been new releases such as new AUX coolers, new AC lines, or new electric vehicle shrouds. There are two ways to show the BoM for a specific variant: 1 by typing, or 2 by using the DMC. 1. Type the MAHLE part number and click the Lookup Customer part number or directly type the customer part number and then click Lookup Components. If successful the list of components will be presented. OR 2. Go to the DMC page and scan a PACCAR DMC code on either a kit label or on a sub module label. Once scanned, navigate back to the HOME page. The customer part number will have been entered automatically. Click Lookup Components.
Why can I only scan the hang-tag label for the customer part number?
The Customer Part Number barcode on the hang-tag has more information that needs to be stripped before the data from the scan can be used. The action of stripping the data precludes scanning other barcodes for the customer part number. To ensure the correct barcode is scanned from the hang-tag, it is recommended to block the other barcodes while the customer part number is being scanned.
Who do I call if I want more features?
Please call or email using coordinates located on the login screen.
What happens when I scan a DMC?
The DataMatricCodes (DMC) used by the PACCAR assembly cells contain a lot of information. The DMC follows a specific format and values can be stripped from the code and used in other processes. Immediately after a DMC is scanned, the data is decoded and two new pieces of data are formed. A web service is called to generate new QR codes: one to emulate the KIT DMC code and the second to emulate the MOD DMC code. Both QR codes are then presented. The other decoded information is also stored so that component parts can be found from the BoM.
What do I do if the BoM is undefined?
If the component parts cannot be found please log out and log back into the application. In rare situations, the BoM may be required to be updated.
Why are there more or less components in the app than listed on the kit label?
Currently the BoM is updated in a back-end process using JIS area CH02. All items that are kitting relevant are filtered to create the list of components. If the label being compared is from a different JIS area such as RA02, then the kitting relevant data may be different.
